Dr. Bolton Is Different
Considering hair transplant surgery for your hair loss? Choosing a hair transplant surgeon is an important decision, and the approach used to plan and perform the procedure can have a significant impact on the final result.
Dr. Brett Bolton has developed a distinctive approach to hair restoration based on his extensive experience treating patients with different patterns and degrees of hair loss. His focus is on creating natural-looking results while carefully considering each patient's existing hair, donor characteristics, scalp condition, hair-loss pattern, and long-term restoration goals.
This individualized approach is particularly important for patients who may have limited donor hair or who have undergone a previous hair transplant. Over the course of his career, Dr. Bolton has developed specialized techniques and treatment approaches around these principles, including MaxHarvest™, Bolton Bundles™, and Bolton EDGE™.
His philosophy is centered on planning for the patient's long-term appearance rather than simply focusing on the number of grafts used during a single procedure. The goal is to develop a restoration plan appropriate for each patient's individual circumstances.

MaxHarvest™ Procedure
A MaxHarvest™ Hair Transplant is a specialized hair restoration surgery developed by Dr. Brett Bolton. It incorporates a distinctive harvesting technique designed to safely extract the maximum number of hairs possible based on the individual's scalp elasticity and donor area condition.
Unlike other conventional hair transplant procedures, this approach is designed around the individual patient's variables to provide the best opportunity for maximum results in one procedure.
The MaxHarvest™ approach focuses on making effective use of the patient's available donor hair rather than looking only at graft count. The amount that can be safely harvested varies from patient to patient and depends on factors such as scalp elasticity and the condition of the donor area.
By considering these individual characteristics, MaxHarvest™ is designed to maximize the amount of hair that can be harvested and transplanted during a single procedure while working toward natural-looking coverage.
Bolton Bundles™
Bolton Bundles™ are multiple follicular units containing approximately 2–3 follicular units, or 4–8 hairs. These grafts are used behind the hairline to help increase density while maintaining the natural grouping of the hair.
Bolton Bundles™ Advantages
- 1 More Density Behind the Hairline
- 2 Natural-Looking Results
Multiple hairs are kept in their natural state.
- 3 Healthier Transplanted Tissue
There is less separation of the follicular units.
- 4 Lower Transplant Cost
- 5 Potentially Satisfying Results in One Procedure
How Did Dr. Bolton Develop His Hair Transplant Techniques?
In the late 1990s, Dr. Bolton was new to the hair transplant practice in Nashville. At the time, hair transplant technology was at an important point of development, and Dr. Bolton had the opportunity to observe different approaches to hair restoration surgery.
During this period, he observed both older and newer surgical methods and gained experience with different approaches to hair transplantation. These observations helped shape his approach to developing techniques focused on improving the overall hair restoration process.
Understanding the Difference Between Old and New Techniques
Many of the older procedures relied on larger hair plugs, which could contain a significant number of hairs harvested with a punch biopsy instrument. In some cases, large areas of scalp were removed, leaving the characteristic appearance associated with older hair transplant procedures.
As hair restoration techniques evolved, the industry moved toward smaller follicular unit grafts and more refined methods of harvesting and transplantation.
Dr. Bolton Is Not Conventional, Which Means More Hair for Patients
Dr. Bolton's observations of conventional hair transplant surgery led him to question whether existing approaches were making the most effective use of a patient's available donor hair.
His approach has focused on preserving and utilizing the available donor supply while developing techniques intended to provide patients with greater density and natural-looking results.
Dr. Bolton Blazes a New Trail for the Most Effective Hair Transplant
Dr. Bolton developed a different approach to hair restoration by focusing on how naturally occurring follicular groupings could be preserved and used during transplantation.
Harvested and separated under a microscope, Bolton Bundles™ are grafts that contain multiple hairs growing naturally together. Rather than routinely separating every follicular unit into smaller individual grafts, Dr. Bolton's technique preserves these natural groupings where appropriate.
Bolton Bundles™ can contain approximately 4–8 hairs in a graft. Their size allows them to be placed strategically behind the frontal hairline to help create additional density.
The technique is designed to preserve the natural organization of the hair while reducing unnecessary separation and handling of the follicular units.
The Rest of the World
Conventional hair transplant procedures commonly separate follicular units into smaller grafts. Dr. Bolton's approach differs by preserving larger natural groupings when appropriate and using them strategically as part of the overall restoration.
This approach forms part of the foundation behind Dr. Bolton's advanced hair transplant techniques and his focus on achieving greater density while maintaining a natural appearance.
Why Dr. Bolton Developed the MaxHarvest™ Hair Transplant
While many hair transplant procedures focus on performing multiple surgeries over time, Dr. Bolton developed a different approach. His goal was to maximize the amount of hair that could be harvested and transplanted during a single procedure.
Combined with the development of Bolton Bundles™, Dr. Bolton's approach led to the development of the MaxHarvest™ Hair Transplant.
A MaxHarvest™ Hair Transplant is a specialized hair restoration surgery developed by Dr. Brett Bolton. It incorporates a distinctive harvesting technique designed to safely extract the maximum number of hairs possible based on the individual's scalp elasticity and donor area condition.
Unlike conventional hair transplant procedures, the MaxHarvest™ approach is designed around the individual patient's donor characteristics and treatment goals, with the objective of maximizing the amount of hair available for transplantation in one procedure.
We Don't Count Grafts. We Just Give You More Hair!
Dr. Bolton's approach focuses on the amount of hair being transplanted rather than simply counting grafts. Because follicular units can contain different numbers of hairs, graft count alone does not necessarily describe how much hair is actually being transplanted.
MaxHarvest™ is designed to make the most of the patient's available donor hair and provide the opportunity for greater hair coverage in a single procedure.
More Hair. Fewer Surgeries. Less Out-of-Pocket Expense.
Dr. Bolton's approach focuses on maximizing the amount of hair transplanted during a single procedure rather than simply counting grafts, with the goal of providing greater coverage from the patient's available donor supply.
When more hair can be transplanted during one procedure, patients may have less need for multiple surgeries to achieve their desired level of coverage. This can also reduce the overall financial burden associated with undergoing additional procedures.
The amount of hair that can be safely harvested varies from patient to patient. Dr. Bolton evaluates the donor area, scalp characteristics, and individual treatment goals when determining the appropriate approach.
The objective is simple: make the most effective use of the patient's available donor hair while working toward a natural-looking result.

Our Pricing Philosophy
Please understand that we do not charge by the graft. We believe that pricing hair transplantation this way can be misleading. For example, when a clinic quotes “1,000 grafts,” that number alone does not indicate how much hair you are actually receiving. A graft may contain one, two, or three hairs, and each situation represents a very different total amount of hair, even though the patient is charged the same based solely on the graft count. For this reason, we believe that graft-based pricing does not always reflect the true value or outcome of a procedure.
Instead, we have chosen what we believe is a fairer and more transparent approach: pricing based on the amount of donor tissue removed. Our planning is based on averages. The average adult male has approximately 200 hairs per square centimeter in the donor area, although individual hair density varies. Regardless of individual density, patients at the same pricing level receive approximately the same amount of donor tissue extracted. This provides consistency in the amount of tissue removed rather than relying on graft numbers that can vary significantly in hair content.
While it is not possible to guarantee an exact number of square centimeters removed, we make every effort to come as close as possible to the planned amount. When feasible, we aim to slightly exceed the planned amount rather than fall short.
