Can a Failed FUE Hair Transplant Be Repaired?

In many cases, an unsuccessful FUE hair transplant can be improved through corrective hair restoration. Patients may seek repair after experiencing poor hair growth, an unnatural hairline, inadequate density, visible scarring, donor area depletion, or other problems following a previous procedure.

Why Do Patients Seek FUE Hair Transplant Repair?

  • Poor or limited hair growth after a previous FUE procedure.
  • An unnatural, overly straight, or poorly designed hairline.
  • Insufficient density or coverage.
  • Overharvesting or visible changes in the donor area.
  • Grafts placed at unnatural angles or directions.
  • Multiple previous procedures with unsatisfactory results.

How Is a Failed FUE Hair Transplant Corrected?

Corrective hair restoration begins with a detailed evaluation of the previous procedure, existing graft placement, donor hair supply, scalp condition, and current pattern of hair loss. Depending on the circumstances, correction may involve redesigning the hairline, adding grafts to improve coverage, improving density, or strategically camouflaging previous work.

Every corrective case is different. Donor hair is a limited resource, so careful planning is especially important when a patient has already undergone one or more hair transplant procedures.

Dr. Brett Bolton's Corrective Hair Restoration Experience

Approximately 75% of Dr. Brett Bolton's practice focuses on corrective hair transplant cases. His experience with complex restoration cases allows him to evaluate previous surgical work and develop a treatment strategy based on the patient's remaining donor supply, hair characteristics, and long-term goals.

Can Every Failed Hair Transplant Be Fixed?

Not every unsuccessful hair transplant can be completely reversed, and the potential for improvement depends on factors such as donor hair availability, scalp condition, previous surgical procedures, existing grafts, and the extent of hair loss. A detailed consultation is necessary to determine what may realistically be achieved.

Dr. Brett Bolton can evaluate your previous hair transplant and discuss potential corrective options based on your individual situation.

A hair transplant involves relocating follicular units from a suitable donor area to areas affected by hair loss or thinning. The procedure is planned around the patient’s existing hair pattern, available donor hair, and desired level of restoration.

The treatment process includes several stages, including consultation, treatment planning, the procedure itself, recovery, and the gradual development of transplanted hair. Understanding these stages can help patients prepare for the overall restoration journey.

Because hair characteristics and restoration goals differ between patients, the details of treatment can also vary. A personalized consultation provides an opportunity to discuss the procedure and determine an appropriate treatment strategy.

Our Pricing Philosophy

Please understand that we do not charge by the graft. We believe that pricing hair transplantation this way can be misleading. For example, when a clinic quotes “1,000 grafts,” that number alone does not indicate how much hair you are actually receiving. A graft may contain one, two, or three hairs, and each situation represents a very different total amount of hair, even though the patient is charged the same based solely on the graft count. For this reason, we believe that graft-based pricing does not always reflect the true value or outcome of a procedure.

Instead, we have chosen what we believe is a fairer and more transparent approach: pricing based on the amount of donor tissue removed. Our planning is based on averages. The average adult male has approximately 200 hairs per square centimeter in the donor area, although individual hair density varies. Regardless of individual density, patients at the same pricing level receive approximately the same amount of donor tissue extracted. This provides consistency in the amount of tissue removed rather than relying on graft numbers that can vary significantly in hair content.

While it is not possible to guarantee an exact number of square centimeters removed, we make every effort to come as close as possible to the planned amount. When feasible, we aim to slightly exceed the planned amount rather than fall short.
