Can a Failed Hair Transplant Be Corrected?

Yes. A failed or unsatisfactory hair transplant may be improved through corrective hair restoration, depending on the condition of the scalp, remaining donor hair, previous graft placement, and the patient's goals. Corrective procedures are often more complex because the surgeon must evaluate and work around the results of the previous transplant.

Common Reasons Patients Need Corrective Hair Restoration

  • Unnatural Hairline: Improving hairlines that appear too straight, low, or artificial.
  • Poor Density: Adding coverage when a previous procedure did not provide the desired fullness.
  • Incorrect Graft Placement: Addressing unnatural direction, angles, or spacing.
  • Donor Area Concerns: Improving the appearance of overharvested donor areas when possible.
  • Previous Unsatisfactory Results: Developing a new restoration strategy after disappointing results.

How Is Corrective Hair Transplant Surgery Different?

Corrective cases often require more detailed planning because the surgeon must evaluate previous work, available donor resources, scalp condition, and realistic improvement possibilities.

Can Every Failed Hair Transplant Be Fixed?

Not every previous hair transplant can be completely corrected. The potential for improvement depends on factors such as remaining donor hair, previous graft placement, scalp condition, scarring, and the patient's goals. A detailed evaluation is necessary before recommending corrective treatment.

Because approximately 75% Corrective Hair Transplant Cases are part of Dr. Brett Bolton's practice, complex restoration cases receive specialized evaluation and planning.

With more than 10,000+ Hair Restoration Procedures performed, Dr. Brett Bolton develops customized corrective hair restoration strategies designed around each patient's individual situation.

Hair transplant treatment planning begins with evaluating the patient’s current pattern of hair loss and identifying the areas where restoration may provide the most appropriate improvement. Donor hair availability and the characteristics of the existing hair are also important considerations.

A consultation allows patients to discuss their restoration goals and understand the factors that may influence their treatment options. Planning may consider both current areas of concern and the potential progression of hair loss over time.

Understanding the planning process can help prospective patients approach a consultation with realistic expectations. Questions about procedure selection, donor hair, restoration goals, recovery, and future hair growth can all be discussed as part of individualized treatment planning.

Our Pricing Philosophy

Please understand that we do not charge by the graft. We believe that pricing hair transplantation this way can be misleading. For example, when a clinic quotes “1,000 grafts,” that number alone does not indicate how much hair you are actually receiving. A graft may contain one, two, or three hairs, and each situation represents a very different total amount of hair, even though the patient is charged the same based solely on the graft count. For this reason, we believe that graft-based pricing does not always reflect the true value or outcome of a procedure.

Instead, we have chosen what we believe is a fairer and more transparent approach: pricing based on the amount of donor tissue removed. Our planning is based on averages. The average adult male has approximately 200 hairs per square centimeter in the donor area, although individual hair density varies. Regardless of individual density, patients at the same pricing level receive approximately the same amount of donor tissue extracted. This provides consistency in the amount of tissue removed rather than relying on graft numbers that can vary significantly in hair content.

While it is not possible to guarantee an exact number of square centimeters removed, we make every effort to come as close as possible to the planned amount. When feasible, we aim to slightly exceed the planned amount rather than fall short.
