What Should I Do Before a Hair Transplant?

Preparing for hair transplant surgery involves more than simply choosing a procedure date. Proper preparation helps your surgical team understand your health history, plan the procedure appropriately, and guide you through the recovery process.

How Should I Prepare Before Surgery?

  • Review Your Medical History: Tell your surgeon about medical conditions, allergies, medications, supplements, and previous procedures.
  • Follow Pre-Operative Instructions: Your surgical team may provide specific instructions regarding medications, supplements, alcohol, smoking, and other factors that can affect surgery or healing.
  • Plan for Recovery: Arrange appropriate time for rest and make sure you have everything needed for your post-operative care.
  • Understand the Procedure: Discuss the planned technique, expected graft requirements, recovery process, and realistic results before surgery.
  • Prepare Questions: Write down any concerns about the procedure, aftercare, activity restrictions, or long-term hair restoration planning.

What Should I Wear on the Day of Surgery?

Comfortable clothing that does not need to be pulled over your head can make the day of surgery easier. Follow any additional instructions provided by your surgical team.

Why Is Pre-Surgery Preparation Important?

Every hair restoration procedure should be planned around the individual patient. Following your surgeon’s instructions and communicating your complete medical history can help create a safer and more organized treatment experience.

During your consultation, Dr. Brett Bolton provides individualized instructions based on your procedure, medical history, and hair restoration goals.

With more than 10,000+ Hair Restoration Procedures performed and approximately 75% Corrective Hair Transplant Cases, Dr. Brett Bolton develops personalized restoration strategies for each patient.

Long-term hair restoration involves considering more than the immediate appearance following a hair transplant. Treatment planning can take into account the patient’s existing hair, donor supply, current pattern of hair loss, and potential future changes in hair density.

A carefully planned restoration approach aims to make effective use of available donor hair while addressing the patient’s most important areas of concern. Individual factors can influence how much coverage may be achievable and how treatment is approached.

Discussing long-term restoration goals during a consultation can help patients understand the potential benefits and limitations of treatment. A personalized plan can take current needs and future hair-loss considerations into account when appropriate.

Our Pricing Philosophy

Please understand that we do not charge by the graft. We believe that pricing hair transplantation this way can be misleading. For example, when a clinic quotes “1,000 grafts,” that number alone does not indicate how much hair you are actually receiving. A graft may contain one, two, or three hairs, and each situation represents a very different total amount of hair, even though the patient is charged the same based solely on the graft count. For this reason, we believe that graft-based pricing does not always reflect the true value or outcome of a procedure.

Instead, we have chosen what we believe is a fairer and more transparent approach: pricing based on the amount of donor tissue removed. Our planning is based on averages. The average adult male has approximately 200 hairs per square centimeter in the donor area, although individual hair density varies. Regardless of individual density, patients at the same pricing level receive approximately the same amount of donor tissue extracted. This provides consistency in the amount of tissue removed rather than relying on graft numbers that can vary significantly in hair content.

While it is not possible to guarantee an exact number of square centimeters removed, we make every effort to come as close as possible to the planned amount. When feasible, we aim to slightly exceed the planned amount rather than fall short.
