Am I a Candidate for a Hair Transplant?

Not everyone experiencing hair loss is an immediate candidate for a hair transplant. A successful hair restoration procedure begins with a detailed evaluation of your hair loss pattern, donor hair availability, medical history, and long-term goals.

Common Factors That May Make Someone a Good Candidate

  • Stable Pattern Hair Loss: Patients with a relatively predictable hair loss pattern may be easier to plan for over the long term.
  • Adequate Donor Hair: Healthy donor follicles are necessary to create appropriate coverage and density.
  • Realistic Expectations: Understanding what can be achieved based on available donor resources is important.
  • Good General Health: Overall health and medical history can influence surgical planning and recovery.
  • Appropriate Timing: The timing of surgery is considered carefully to create a long-term restoration strategy.

Who May Need Additional Evaluation?

Patients with active or rapidly progressing hair loss, limited donor supply, certain medical conditions, or unrealistic expectations may require additional assessment before considering surgery. In some cases, medical treatment or further evaluation may be recommended before proceeding with a hair transplant.

How Is Candidacy Determined?

During a consultation, Dr. Brett Bolton evaluates your scalp, donor area, hair loss progression, medical history, and restoration goals. This allows a personalized recommendation based on your individual situation.

With more than 10,000+ Hair Restoration Procedures performed and approximately 75% Corrective Hair Transplant Cases, Dr. Brett Bolton provides customized treatment plans for both first-time and corrective hair restoration patients.

Long-term hair restoration involves considering more than the immediate appearance following a hair transplant. Treatment planning can take into account the patient’s existing hair, donor supply, current pattern of hair loss, and potential future changes in hair density.

A carefully planned restoration approach aims to make effective use of available donor hair while addressing the patient’s most important areas of concern. Individual factors can influence how much coverage may be achievable and how treatment is approached.

Discussing long-term restoration goals during a consultation can help patients understand the potential benefits and limitations of treatment. A personalized plan can take current needs and future hair-loss considerations into account when appropriate.

Our Pricing Philosophy

Please understand that we do not charge by the graft. We believe that pricing hair transplantation this way can be misleading. For example, when a clinic quotes “1,000 grafts,” that number alone does not indicate how much hair you are actually receiving. A graft may contain one, two, or three hairs, and each situation represents a very different total amount of hair, even though the patient is charged the same based solely on the graft count. For this reason, we believe that graft-based pricing does not always reflect the true value or outcome of a procedure.

Instead, we have chosen what we believe is a fairer and more transparent approach: pricing based on the amount of donor tissue removed. Our planning is based on averages. The average adult male has approximately 200 hairs per square centimeter in the donor area, although individual hair density varies. Regardless of individual density, patients at the same pricing level receive approximately the same amount of donor tissue extracted. This provides consistency in the amount of tissue removed rather than relying on graft numbers that can vary significantly in hair content.

While it is not possible to guarantee an exact number of square centimeters removed, we make every effort to come as close as possible to the planned amount. When feasible, we aim to slightly exceed the planned amount rather than fall short.
